Pathogenic bacteria colonize in the gastrointestinal tract of the bird and cause persistent problem for the poultry. Gut epithelium of the chicken is constantly assaulted by the enteropathogenic and enteroinvasive bacteria in to the digestive tract. The normal gut flora consisting of various microbial population of chicken helps in digestion and prevents colonization of the intestinal wall by undesirable bacteria like Clostridium, E.coli and Salmonella. Microaerophilic lactic acid bacteria viz. lactobacilli, bifidobacteria and streptococci are predominant normal flora of the digestive system. The normal desirable gut floral population comes down by using frequent and prolongs use of gut acting  and systemic and thus there is overgrowth of potentially invasive and pathogenic bacteria and several harmful symptoms like bacterial enteritis, septicemia and loose droppings develop which leads to production losses.
